π things to do on Google+

Every day I spend my days on streams of many social, for business and for pleasure, of course. It is not a health walk trying to keep up with everything. I try to enjoy myself as well as I update as much as possible, going to visit sites and blogs that talk about my job.

I have my own way of seeing things. I do Social Media Marketing but I would not say that I am “advertising.” I could not, because of my way of doing things and by nature. Too far from the concept.

I see anyway many people, working in this field, each with its own pace and language.

What makes me smile is that every day more and more items come out with titles like “10 things to do to use Twitter to uncork a beer” or “The 10 smarter practices to avoid traffic on the freeway with LinkedIn” or “The 50 most beautiful images to promote prune-colored lingerie on Instagram.” Things like that.

Okay, fine. Apparently it works. The use of numerical categorizations has always given a foothold to the reader (and perhaps to the writer too). It ‘sa way to hook the reader and make him curious. And, ehi, the Americans are doing so… But be careful, things get tired very soon on the Net, repeat and repeat this practice may eventually bring some apparent benefit immediately but puts your content in a cauldron where it will no longer be distinguishable from the rest.

The average quality of these articles is often good. But if I had to go to filter what and how many of these items have left an indelible mark in my way of seeing things then I must be honest and say that only a very few of them in the world really add something more.

What happens then? Often someone has a different starting point, a true idea and write it somewhere in the network. Many, as a result, take up this idea cooking it using different sauces: French style, Italian, German style, with pictures, no pictures, with infographics, with histograms… The perimeter of these repeatitions is therefore not only closed but it is actually circular: reading these articles one after another is often like walking along a circle, a real “Ring-a-ring a roses, a pocket full of posies…

No, I absolutely don’t believe the idea that people not on the forefront resume what has been said elsewhere to simulate they know more than others. It is true though, and I challenge you to say the opposite, that we read every day things said and repeated that we often emphasize as if they had caused earthquakes in our world so as to leave a new landscape in front of us. But is it really so?

If we speak of a circle, then, I suggest you use Google+ to make π things that are not normally made (so I join the group)

1) Do not use Google+ only to write as you would use Google to gain visibility.

2) Use social that are going to leave us (farewell Facebook) to talk with colleagues about how to use Google+, you can do it in those places, if you really have to …

3) Use Google+ as if it were a social (because it is a social), every now and then to talk about what you work for, not HOW you work or ONLY what you work for.

3,14) The most important rule, the pi-greek: be yourself and nothing else. Google+ is not a social built on real-world friendships, is a place of meetings between mutual interests. If someone uses it only to talk about the things he wants to promote, not being even part of the world that tells, then others will notice it. That’s why the Google+‘s rule of the pi-greek is the only one that works in the world of web content: you always have to work on something in which you believe and maybe even working in the first person. I could never write content for McDonald’s, as the people with whom I talk every day know perfectly well that I would not be able to do so. Talking about my life telling also of renewable energy would certainly be more accepted because my circles know that I work directly in the field. I do content management on new energy sources, but not only. I go directly to the people building with them a renewable pathway. I go there often using an electric vehicle, so if I talk about it to promote to others this does not appear as prostitution but as sharing what I do and what I believe. Neither more nor less than when talking about a movie I saw, a poem I read, a borning  or an ending love.

So I do, and even if sometimes I give in, as today, in writing a post on Google+ about how you should use Google+, really every day I live with my circles of friends for what I am, I dream, I try, I believe, I’m wrong, I’m trying to correct.

Less post on HOW TO … Be!
